Chamomile extract is rich in active compounds like flavonoids, coumarins, monosaccharides, and oligosaccharides. These compounds help soothe inflamed skin and reduce inflammation. Two separate studies have demonstrated that a chamomile-containing cream was actually equally or more effective than a hydrocortisone cream at calming skin inflammation.
Additionally, several studies have shown that topically-applied chamomile extract can reduce inflammation markers in the skin.
Except for those with an allergy to the Compositae family of plants (which includes chamomile, dandelion, and sunflower), chamomile extract is extremely well-tolerated and is a great addition for any skin type.
