DMAE is a powerful skin-firming ingredient. In one study, participants using a facial gel with 3% DMAE for 16 weeks saw significant reductions in forehead lines and fine wrinkles. DMAE’s mechanism of action is on the dermis, the middle layer of our skin. The dermis provides the scaffolding of the skin, and is generally responsible for the look of aging skin as our collagen starts to break down. In a study on human skin, DMAE-treated skin had increased dermal thickness as well as collagen fiber thickness compared to the control.
